How to get from Bangkok to Koh Chang by Bus, Minibus & Plane

Bangkok is only 350km of modern comfortable road away from Koh Chang meaning travelling from the capital to Koh Chang is a seamless Journey by road. Alternatively if you are looking for something quicker and more convenient there are daily flights from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi to the nearby Trat Airport. Getting to Koh Chang By Bus from Bangkok City

If you are travelling from Bangkok City to Koh Chang the most economical way to get to the Koh Chang pier of Laem Ngop is by taking the Express 99 buses or Minibuses that run from Bangkok’s Ekkamai Eastern Bus Terminal, located on Sukhumvit Road at Soi Ekkamai (Sukhumvit Soi 63). The best way to get to the Ekkamai Eastern Bus Terminal is by using the BTS Skytrain, once you reach the Ekkamai BTS Skytrain Station (station code E7) the Bus Terminal is just a short 5 minute walk.

The Express 99 bus leaves the Ekkamai Eastern Bus Station, via Suvarnabhumi Bus Station and then goes direct to Ao Thammachat (07.45 bus only) and Centrepoint Piers near Laem Ngop. There are two daily buses which depart at 7.45am and 9:45am and take around 6 hours costing 275 baht. You can pickup this service at the Suvarnabhumi Bus Station which departs at 08.20 am and 10.20 am.

Minibuses also run from the Ekkamai Eastern Bus Station to Trat, leaving at 5.00 am, 6.00 am, 9.30am, 12.00 pm, 12.30 pm, 14.30 pm and 16.30 pm. As you enter the bus station the ticket booth is just on the right and tickets costs 265 Baht. The journey to Trat takes around 5 hours, you will need to tell the driver you are going to Koh Chang and they will drop you off just before you get to Trat where you can jump on a songthaew to the pier. Minibuses do stop once or twice during the journey where you can go to the shop and wash rooms.


Getting to Koh Chang By Bus from Suvarnabhumi Airport

suvarnabhumii-koh-chang-busFor those wishing to go straight to Koh Chang from the airport you can take the No. 392 bus service ( Suvarnabhumi Burapha Bus service ) that leaves at 07.30am from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The service is run by the Suvarnabhumi Burapha Bus Company Co., Ltd. Bus Tickets can be purchased from their ticket booth on the ground floor of the Airport. The VIP bus departs Bangkok and Koh Chang daily with scheduled stops at Trat, Chantaburi, Rayong as well as Pattaya’s bus stations. An all in ticket including ferry costs 600 baht.

Both journeys take roughly 6 hours including the ferry crossing to Koh Chang. The 600 Baht fare includes transfer, ferry ticket and also transfers from the ferry pier as far as lonely beach once you reach the island. You can get a return ticket for 900 Baht but this does not cover transfer to Klong Song on your return.


Getting to Koh Chang By Air

Bangkok Airways operates 3 daily flights to the nearby Trat from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. The hour long flights are available at 8:20am, 11.40am and 17.00pm. Costs start from 3100 baht. The airport is about 20km from the port of Laem Ngop and buses including the ferry can be arranged to Koh Chang.

Bangkok Airways also operates a limousine transfer service from Trat Airport to Koh Chang, operating from White Sands Beach to Bang Bao. There are two services to choose from.
